Uncertainty and Choice

Why is that so many people turn to sites like this one for answers to their questions? It is not exactly a new phenoma either, people have been using oracles for centuries does this mean that a large portion of humanity has the inability to choose for themselves? I think so, I think that the world that we live in is filled with the potential for doubt. Just like we have night and day, things that can seem apparently clear can suddenly become dark and vague. Our human perception is flawed and its weakness leads us to doubt and question things. The level at which we question though is important, most people simply question whether someone loves them like they want to be loved or whether they will have enough to make it through the day/month/year. These people are the sheep of society because they ignore the big questions as to where are our leaders taking us, will there be a safe playground for our children and other such issues.
I guess the reason for these different levels of questions can be found in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. If you are stuck trying to survive, find a partner and just get through the day then your questions will be simple. If you can rise above that level of need then you can think and dream about the deeper question but who of us can really escape the realities of this world. I guess if we were living in India where holy men where once revered then perhaps we could spend our time contemplating these deeper questions while poor villagers provided us with our daily needs in the hope of good karma.
I digress, this was supposed to be about choice and why people turn to outside sources to find answers. As I said this is a world of uncertainty so yes we need help in solving its many mysteries but then shouldn't we talk to other people and ask them for advice? Perhaps the problem is the fear that we have of letting people in? Or perhaps that we view the people who tell us their life stories and problems irritating.
Anyway I choose to end this ramble here, with the admission that I built the Silhouette site so perhaps I shouldn't judge the people who quesiton things there too harshly.
